If there’s one word that defined this racing season across the region, it was rain. After a relentlessly rainy spring and summer that saw local tracks fighting the skies as often as the drivers fought each other for position, we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. For some frustrated promoters and fans, this season featured more rainouts than checkered flags. But as the autumn chill bites through our light jackets, the engines haven’t gone quiet just yet. The 2026 season is coming to a quick end, but the final sprint is packing enough horsepower to make us forget all those washed-out Friday and Saturday nights.
This weekend, the spotlight shines on Orrville, Ohio. Wayne County Speedway is closing out the month with its highly anticipated Fall Blow Out, running both Friday and Saturday nights. After a season of dodging weather, Wayne County is ready to pack the stands and let the dirt fly for two straight evenings of high-stakes, late-season showdowns.
Just across the border in Mercer, Pennsylvania, Michael’s Mercer Raceway Park is hosting its own autumn tradition. The Little Guy Nationals also take over this weekend, giving the regional grassroots racers a massive stage to battle it out before the haulers are packed away for the winter.
On the asphalt side of things, Lorain Raceway Park will host the combined Trident Stock Car & Modified Jackpot Nationals event this weekend.
As the calendar flips to next weekend, we officially welcome October and the pavement pounders take their turn to rattle our chests. Toledo Speedway is rolling out the red carpet for the Stars and Stripes Glass City 200 Festival. The half-mile asphalt oval will host an absolute gauntlet of open-wheel and fendered fury, featuring the USAC Silver Crown Rollie Beale Classic, the 500 Sprint Tour, and the ever-popular Outlaw Late Models.
Meanwhile, Midvale Speedway is taking a defiant stand against Mother Nature. After earlier rainouts forced their hand, the track is stepping up to make good on its promises by hosting the rescheduled Fall Classic event across a massive three-day weekend on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Michael’s Mercer Raceway Park will host the All Star Circuit of Champions season final Saturday, October 3rd after a scheduling shuffle following a cancellation from Stateline Speedway in New York.
But the undisputed crown jewel of October dirt racing arrives when the big dogs roll into the Buckeye State. The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series is bringing a brutal three-day marathon for Sheldon Haudenschild’s NOS Energy Drink Buckeye Brawl. The WoO traveling circus kicks off the brawl on Thursday, October 8th, under the lights at Findlay’s Millstream Speedway. They’ll pack up the rigs and head east on Friday, October 9th to battle at the historic Mansfield Speedway, before culminating the weekend on Saturday, October 10th with a massive finale at Hartford’s beloved Sharon Speedway.
The summer of 2026 may go down in the record books as one of the wettest, most frustrating seasons in recent memory. But with a final stretch this heavy, the roar of the engines will echo long after the snow finally falls.
